About Team Witsken Tennis

Team Witsken Tennis was founded by Rick Witsken in 2001. After the passing of his brother, Todd Witsken, in 1998, Rick wanted to continue to represent the students that he and Todd worked with who were, “Winners in the game of life”. The Witskens believed that through the game of tennis, players not only developed strokes and shots, but also created a good work ethic and a positive attitude that could be applied throughout life. It is the goal of Team Witsken to provide a professional atmosphere where players can improve their tennis skills and also become outstanding individuals on and off the court!

Team Witsken is the contracted management company for the new 8 court tennis facility, Pearson Automotive Tennis Club located in Zionsville. While Team Witsken runs and oversees all PATC operations the two are separate entities and have different operating systems and policies. While Team Witsken may not have a large selection of winter classes we do run all the programming at PATC and would love to see our clients join PATC! Membership information can be found via www.pearsontennis.com.

Todd Witsken PhotoTodd Witsken was a standout tennis player from Carmel High School who went on to have a successful professional tennis career. Being at the top of the world ranking in doubles and in the top 50 in the world in singles, Todd was at the highest level of achievement in Professional Tennis. One of Todd’s most famous matches is during the 1986 U.S. Open in New York when he defeated Top Professional Jimmy Connors in a straight set match, 6-2, 6-4, 7-5.

Todd would continue to play on the pro tour and in 1989 during Wimbledon, Todd would play one of the longest matches seen at Wimbledon. He and his opponent, Greg Holmes, would play a 5 set match that, while Todd lost, was timed at a record (at the time) 5 hours and 28 minutes. The score of their match was 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 14-12. That match stood as the longest until the Mahut-Isner Match in 2010.

In 1996, it was discovered that Todd had a malignant tumor growing in his brain. After a tremendous battle with the cancer, Todd passed away at the age of 34 in 1998. Todd was a devoted husband, father, son and brother.
